Market Complexion Is Our Focus
When it comes to the financial markets our main focus is price action, time, and price. The focus is predominantly on what we’re seeing in front of us and not what we’re hearing on the news, analyst upgrades and downgrades, or those who act like they know the news before anyone else. At the end of the day the thing that matters the most is price, since that is what gets us paid; therefore, price is king.
Charts and data paint us a story about overall market complexion and sentiment. As traders it is our job to understand the mechanics of price behavior thus putting it in the best position possible versus chasing price, listening to pundits on television with agendas (and/or portfolio positioning), and biased articles (some which compensate the author). As traders we’re concerned with the ‘here and know’ not trying to predict what a stock price will be years from now; nor do we care about a business’s products.
In addition to our technical analysis, we evaluate the financial markets from a holistic approach enabling us to understand the market complexion and the weight of the evidence into the market sentiment. We utilize this through technical analysis on financial charts, statistical data models, and various economic indicators.
The most important component of trading is keeping your emotions grounded. This is achieved through the focus of price action, time and price, and “how markets behave” versus “trying to figure out why something is happening” since price is what determines the outcome of a profit and a loss.
